Locus D
£31.00
The D locus controls colour dilution. The d1 variant in the MLPH gene lightens black to blue and brown to lilac. It’s the most common dilution allele and is found in many breeds. Testing it shows whether a dog expresses or carries diluted colour.
Description
Locus D (Dilution locus – MLPH gene)
The D locus controls colour dilution in dogs. The d1 variant of the MLPH gene lightens colours:
-
Black → Blue (grey)
-
Brown (liver) → Lilac
It is the most common dilution variant and is found in many breeds.
How it works:
-
Dogs with two copies of d1 (d1/d1) show diluted colour
-
Dogs with one copy (N/d1) are carriers — they do not look diluted but can pass the gene to their offspring
