Description
Chondrodystrophy (CDDY) and Intervertebral Disc Disease (IVDD) Risk
Chondrodystrophy (CDDY) is a hereditary skeletal condition associated with shortened limbs and premature degeneration of the intervertebral discs. These early changes in the spinal discs significantly increase a dog’s lifetime risk of developing Intervertebral Disc Disease (IVDD).
Dogs carrying the CDDY mutation are more likely to experience:
- Disc calcification
- Disc herniation (slipped disc)
- Sudden back pain
- Reduced mobility or hind-leg weakness
In severe cases: paralysis
The CDDY + CDPA panel helps breeders and owners understand a dog’s genetic predisposition to these spinal issues, supporting informed breeding decisions and proactive health management.
